SAN DIEGO, Feb. 13, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a leading provider of silicon and software solutions to enable connected home entertainment, announced today it was ranked the 2011 market share leader in the "No New Wire Integrated Circuit (IC) Vendors" category in IMS Research's "Home Networks and Residential Gateways 2012" report, released on January 12, 2012.
The report shows the market for MoCA® (Multimedia over Coax) growing from 13.7M devices in 2010 to 106.8M by 2016, a 40.7 percent Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) – higher than any other "No New Wire IC technology" such as powerline or HPNA. The report also lists Entropic as the market share leader in 2011 with 35 percent of the "wired" home networking sector.
Entropic's home networking silicon solutions are based on the MoCA standard, which uses the existing coaxial cable in the home to create a robust, reliable, home network for streaming high-definition (HD) video and multimedia content into and throughout the home.
"We are focused on maintaining our MoCA technology leadership, and enjoy very strong market share as a result of ongoing innovation coupled with leading-edge thinking and design in the connected home entertainment market," said Patrick Henry, president and CEO, Entropic. "Additionally, we are seeing significant market momentum and design-win traction for our MoCA 2.0 silicon and software. We believe our MoCA 2.0 solution will satisfy the long-term, whole-home digital networking needs of operators, OEMs and consumers by providing more than double the throughput of MoCA 1.1, enhanced reliability, new power management features, enhanced security, and backwards interoperability to prior MoCA standards."
"Entropic is leading the pack when it comes to global market share in the 'no new wire' IC category," said Heath Lockett, market analyst, IMS Research. "The Company has been particularly proactive with regard to supporting HD video content and ensuring connectivity with a range of devices. This has helped Entropic to firmly establish itself with a range of service provider and OEM connected home entertainment strategies."
