BEAVERTON, Ore. and SAN DIEGO, Sept. 26, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The RVU Alliance today announced the election of Entropic Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:ENTR), a world leader in semiconductor solutions for the connected home, to its Board of Directors, effective immediately. "We are pleased to welcome Entropic and Dr. Monk to the RVU Alliance Board of Directors," said Henry Derovanessian, president of the RVU Alliance and senior vice president at DIRECTV. "Dr. Monk's extensive board experience will help provide valuable guidance to drive RVU forward as a key enabling technology to allow consumers the same user experience at every TV in the home."

"We feel both RVU and Entropic can benefit greatly from the higher level of strategic engagement at the board level. I am honored to represent Entropic on the RVU Alliance Board of Directors as we advance the RVU standard to meet the new video delivery demands required by the convergence of broadcast and broadband networks."
An industry pioneer in the video over coax connectivity market, Dr. Monk is one of the co-founders of Entropic, and currently serves as the Company's vice president of Technology. He also serves on the MoCA Board of Directors and is involved in various advisory boards, including the UCSD Corporate Affiliates Program, the EvoNexus Incubator, and the UCSD Electrical Engineering Department. Prior to Entropic, Dr. Monk was involved in the development of cable, fixed wireless and satellite integrated circuits (ICs) at Conexant and ComStream Corporation and also spent time as a researcher at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). He holds a master's of science degree in electrical engineering from The California Institute of Technology and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The University of California, San Diego.
About RVU Alliance
RVU is a client/server-based technology that allows the television viewer to experience a consistent, pixel accurate server-generated user interface on various consumer electronics devices. The RVU specification uses widely implemented UPnP and DLNA technologies to enable a gateway device such as an advanced set-top box to work with non-proprietary client devices such as connected TVs, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes. The specification is maintained by the RVU Alliance, founded by Broadcom, Cisco, DIRECTV, Samsung and Verizon, which facilitates the adoption of an open standard technology that allows service providers to expand their unique UI and user experience onto standard consumer devices without the need for proprietary equipment.
